Pickup by appointment The library will begin offering pickup service June 16th. We are phasing this in gradually, starting with items already in the building. Thank you for your patience as we navigate this new process. Here’s how it will work: 1. You will place holds by calling the library at 603-968-7928, you may leave a message if the library is closed, by emailing: email@example.com, or by using the library’s online catalog. Instructions for using the library’s online catalog are available on the library’s website, ashlandtownlibrary.org under the Catalog Instructions tab. 2. When your holds are ready, you will receive an email or phone notification from the library. We will schedule a pickup time between 2 pm and 5 pm on Tuesdaysand Thursdays. 3. Visit the library at the allotted time to retrieve your materials. At this time, you may also return any items you have out. Please remember to practice social distancing while picking up or returning library materials. Face masks are required while on library property. 4. Homebound service is suspended until further notice.
How will I pick up my holds? Items will be placed on the back porch of the library, in a bag labeled with your name. Items will already be checked out to you – so feel free to take your bag and go! This is a no-contact service, meaning that staff will not be outdoors. At this time, the library building will remain closed to the public.
How can I find out if my holds are ready? We ask that you wait until the library has contacted you to let you know your items are ready. At that time, you may schedule a pickup time.
How do I place holds on items? Please visit ashlandtownlibrary.org and click on the Library Catalog tab to search for items and place a hold online. Instructions can be found on the library’s website under the Catalog Instructions tab. If you have difficulty logging in, or accessing the internet, feel free to call us at 603-968-7928 to place a hold over the phone. You can leave a message on the answering machine if the library is closed. Remember – we will let you know when the items are ready for you to schedule your pickup.
I don’t have a library card. Can I use this service? All Ashland residents and taxpayers are eligible for a free library card. If you’ve had one before but your account has expired, just call us from 2 pm –5 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 603-968-7928, or email the library, firstname.lastname@example.org and we will get your card renewed. You can also contact us if you’ve lost your card. If you have never signed up, don’t worry – you can get a library card over the phone. You will need your current Ashland address and correct contact information. A library staff member will give you a library card number and verify your information. You will then be able to use the library’s online resources and pickup service. When the library re-opens, you will need to show proof of ID and residency in order to extend your account.
Can I request items from other libraries? No, the state wide inter-library loan system has been suspended. We will resume this service when it becomes available.
What safety precautions is the library taking? In concert with best practices, the library has taken the following steps before offering these services:
Completed a detailed cleaning of the library building
Sanitized frequently used surfaces
Obtained adequate stores of disinfectant and hand sanitizer, as well as protective gear for staff.
All staff will be wearing face masks and maintaining social distancing while in the building. In addition, we will be quarantining all returned items for a minimum of 72 hours. All library services will be operated with the minimum number of library staff, to avoid opportunities for contact.
Returning materials Note that the library will offer these services within reduced hours, and the library building will remain closed to the public. Materials may be returned unbagged in the library’s book drop at any time or placed unbagged in a return bin on the back porch during pickup hours. Pickup hours are Tuesday and Thursday from 2 – 5 pm. All returned library materials will be quarantined for a minimum of 72 hours. Only after quarantine will they be checked in – so please do not worry if they still appear in your online account for several days. Please note that the library is not accepting donations of any materials until further notice.
Am I required to return my checkouts? During this first phase of reopening the library, we invite you to keep them longer to help us avoid a rush. All library materials have been renewed, so feel free to hold on to your books if you are still reading them. But if they’re taking up space in your home, by all means bring them back.
How long will you offer this service? Until further notice. Since our service levels are determined based on a number of public health factors, we do not know when our services, or our hours, will change. Please check our website at ashlandtownlibrary.org for updates. Rest assured that library trustees and staff are working on plans for the next phase of reopening and we look forward to offering more services in the future.
